It was a box office bomb unlike Kevin Spacey has ever seen.
The Academy Award winner’s new flick, Billionaire Boys Club, earned a record-breaking $126 on opening day in theatres. The true crime drama was only released in eight theatres, after initially being held from release after Spacey’s sexual misconduct scandal broke last October. It was the last film Spacey shot before the allegations.
Distribution company Vertical Entertainment explained why they decided to release the film: “This is neither an easy nor insensitive decision to release this film in theaters, but we believe in giving the cast, as well as hundreds of crew members who worked hard on the film, the chance to see their final product reach audiences.”
