It’s been a couple of years since Leah Reimini announced that she would be parting ways with the Church of Scientology, and now, the actress has opened up to Oprah Winfrey about all that went into her decision to leave.
“My mother was in Scientology my whole life. Most people don’t know that we were raised in it. I didn’t decide to get into it — I was brought into it by my mom,” Remini explained. “I don’t think people know the amount of dedication it takes to be in this organization.”
And for Remini, that meant hours upon hours of Scientology coursework instead of being able to spend time with her family.
“I was at one of those hotels in Florida, and I saw my daughter swimming for the first time while I’m reading this [Scientology] thing,” she said. “And a tear came down my face. And I was like, ‘What am I doing?’ [The decision to leave] was a culmination of things, but that was a big one in my mind.”
