Chrissy Metz Opens Up About Childhood Physical #Abuse And Humiliation In New Book

In her new memoir, This Is Me, Chrissy Metz opens up about the hardships she experienced before finding fame as Kate Pearson on This Is Us.

After her father left her mother when Metz was 8 years old, she and her siblings faced poverty for years before her mother finally remarried a man they called Trigger. Though he provided in important ways, like putting food on the table, he also physically abused Metz and forced her to do humiliating weigh-ins.

“I’m a tough cookie,” Metz, 37, says. “But it’s one of those things that attempts to break your spirit.”

Still, Metz believes everything happens for a reason.

“We all go through stuff,” she explains. “But I truly believe that everything that happened to me, happened for me. [I’ve learned] some beautiful lessons.”
