Joey Lawrence filed for bankruptcy in July 2017, and the case has finally been settled in court. Among other creditors, the IRS will recoup only a portion of back taxes owed.
At the time of the filing, Lawrence and his wife Chandie had three cars possessed and were spending more than $18,000 more than they could afford each month. Debts included $132,000 to various credit card companies, nearly $100,000 in auto loans and more than $50,000 in unpaid rent.
In settling the case, more than $75,000 in debts were paid, though the IRS and several other creditors received less than they were owed.
