Tom Cruise’s mother, Mary Lee South, reportedly passed away last week at the age of 80.
A family source says South died in her sleep after several years of health problems. Cruise and his family held a memorial at her local Church of Scientology over the weekend. In addition to Cruise, his sisters, Lee Ann DeVette, Cass Mapother, and Marian Henry, were in attendance at the memorial.
Cruise and his mother shared a close relationship over the years, and she strongly influenced his interest in acting. It was at her suggestion that Cruise auditioned for and starred in his first high school production, Guys and Dolls.
Cruise has not made a public statement on her death.
