Brazilian authorities are questioning a police report made by U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte and three of his teammates, claiming they were robbed at gunpoint in Rio by men pretending to be police officers. The judge assigned to the case says there are inconsistencies in the swimmers’ stories.
“I wouldn’t make up a story like this, nor would the others,” Lochte responded on August 17. “As a matter of fact we all feel it makes us look bad. We’re victims in this and we’re happy that we’re safe.”
The Brazilian government has detained two of the Americans involved. They attempted to seize Lochte’s passport, but he was already back in the U.S.
