Kevin Hart was called out on December 4 for past homophobic tweets, some of which have been deleted since he was announced as the host of the 2019 Academy Awards. The tweets, which spanned from 2009 to 2011, were discovered by journalist Benjamin Lee.
“Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay,’” read one such tweet.
Hart responded to the criticism with a lengthy post on Instagram. It had a positive tone, but he did not offer an apology.
“You LIVE and YOU LEARN & YOU GROW & YOU MATURE,” it read in part. “Please take your negative energy and put it into something constructive.”
